The Hepworth Limited Print Collection by Atelier by Mintstudio

The Hepworth Limited Print Collection by Atelier by Mintstudio
By noreply@blogger.com (Blog Milk Shop)

The fab Danish ‘Atelier by Mintstudio‘ designs two annual collections of limited edition prints. Led by head designer Cecilie Svanberg, the latest collection pays homage to British artist and sculptor, Barbara Hepworth, a pioneer who broke into the artistic scene when only a few women had made an impression. Barbara was famous for her organic and simple use of shapes, textures and colors. Each (rather lovely) signed and numbered print is made from an original painting with watercolor, gouache and acrylic paint, then printed on Munken Rough 170 gr paper. The question is, which one to choose? Look out for the prints (and frames) at The Poster Club!

These Black and White Nude Portraits in 8th Arrondissement of Paris are Timeless Classics (NSFW)

These Black and White Nude Portraits in 8th Arrondissement of Paris are Timeless Classics (NSFW)
By Erin Rose Belair

Naked is timeless. Women have been posing unadorned for art for centuries. And there is something about this collection of nude portraits that feel unequivocally French – the wallpaper, the slope of her breast, the lighting. There is a softness to the images as the light leaks in, a precision to every picture taken. You can feel the care in each of them.

The model, Dovile, and photographer, International Decoy, crafted every shot like a painting – the right light, the angle, the way her hands rest on one another are all artfully designed. 25 frames shot on a medium format camera over a five hour period at a small hotel in the 8th Arrondissement of Paris. No makeup artist, no stylist, no one else in the room. The result is a kind of timeless image that might be drawn from a long forgotten top drawer.

A traditional Swedish home with a modern touch

A traditional Swedish home with a modern touch
By noreply@blogger.com (My Scandinavian Home)

It always takes me such a long time to do anything on a Friday, it’s as if my brain thinks it’s already the weekend – do you find this?! This means I get very behind, and with my eye on the prize (I’ve been dreaming of a G+T – note: I keep a stock of chopped up lemon and lime in the freezer for this very occasion) – and I’ve got to get my act together if I’d like to finish in time for a sun downer! So, on with today’s tour. And have I got a lovely home to share with you! This apartment caught my eye thanks to the way it combines old and new. Each room includes unique pieces of furniture and quirky touches which add a wonderful sense of character to the space. Enjoy!

Photography: Anders Bergstedt. Styling Anna Furbacken – for Entrance

I love all the period features and traditional touches (how great are those windows?) and also smaller touches like the built in shelf above the bed.

Does anything catch your eye?

A couple of items I love: source a mid-century credenza / side table here, this and this hand woven cushion are similar. I’m a big fan of oil lamps   – I’ve got one in my window nook –  they let off a lovely light and last way longer than candles). For a modern version try the Patina oil lamp by Klong.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

PS If you have the time (it actually only takes a mo!), don’t forget to enter the Nest.co.uk give-away to win a (fab) cushion and a copy of my new book!

Maggie West’s Latest Body of Work for Slutwalk is Gorgeous, Powerful, and Moving (NSFW)

Maggie West’s Latest Body of Work for Slutwalk is Gorgeous, Powerful, and Moving (NSFW)
By Live Fast Mag

Maggie West has a way of capturing sexuality in neon-colored hues. Removing stigma and instead offering appreciation, her work sees diverse groups of people through a rare lens. Her latest body of work, 98, is an installation that takes 40 nude portraits of diverse women to celebrate women’s right to sexual expression and protest sexual harassment and assault. The title of the piece is taken from a Department of Justice statistic that states every 98 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. The completed installation will slightly resemble an outdoor stained glass ceiling, evoking nostalgic memories of saintly women depicted in churches. This installation is located in the center of Pershing Square in Downtown Los Angeles and will be unveiled during Amber Rose’s Slutwalk on Sunday, October 1st.

“Slutwalk is a celebration of female sexuality. Every year women gather at the festival to celebrate their bodies, protest gender inequality and support one another.

Throughout history, most women depicted in stained glass artwork are saints. The majority of these saints were virgins, many of whom suffered gruesome violent deaths rather than lose their “purity.” The Catholic church revered these women as much for their commitment to maintaining their virginity as their commitment to God.

Rather than be celebrated for their purity, this piece, titled 98, pays tribute women’s freedom to sexually express themselves and protest sexual violence. The title, 98, is taken from a Department Of Justice statistic that says ever 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted.

Diversity is a very important part of this project. All women (including queer women, trans women, sex workers, etc) have experienced the type of harassment, violence and discrimination Slutwalk was designed to protest. This installation brings together women of various backgrounds, ethnicities, and sexual orientations to send a message about a woman’s right to sexual expression without experiencing threats or violence.” – Maggie West, 98 Artist Statement

See a selection of the individual portraits included in the 98 installation below and be sure to attend Sunday’s Slutwalk  to see the installation IRL. For more from Maggie West, follow her here.

How To Style Your Home With Rounded Mirrors

How To Style Your Home With Rounded Mirrors
By noreply@blogger.com (Blog Milk Shop)

It is clear that we’re living in the era of rounded objects. While the angles of a typical home are usually blunt and irregular, perfectly circular objects bring a refreshing focal point to our homes. That’s why it is becoming increasingly popular to include rounder and softer shapes in our homes—from rugs, tables and trays all the way to the acclaimed rounded mirror.

Images: 1 2 3 4 5

We all know the old design trick that using mirrors in the decoration process creates an illusion of a room being bigger than it actually is… but rounded items specifically also provide the room with flow and softness while maintaining the clean lines.

A wall-mounted, rounded mirror can be used anywhere in your home and it can create a statement depending on your choice of size, color and style.

Of course, we also know that this isn’t such a recent trend—but you know what’s recent? The new mentality when it comes to mirrors: “The bigger, the better”—though as we know that also comes with a “bigger” price tag; however, there’s no need to break your piggy bank to get in on this trend.

Here are a few suggestions:

GET THE LOOK

1. Gerald Large Round Wall Mirror Crate and Barrel $299.00
2. Round Frameless Decorative Wall Mirror Target $39.99
3. Ollie Mirror Domino $960.00
4. Round Mirror Brass Target $49.99
5. Cordova Round Mirror Mocha Finish Contemporary Furniture Warehouse $334.00
6. Infinite Round Brass Mirror Cb2 $229.00

What are your thoughts on rounded mirrors?

“I Didn’t Ask For This: A Lifetime Of D*** Pics” Captures the Invasive Nature of Unwanted Sexts

“I Didn’t Ask For This: A Lifetime Of D*** Pics” Captures the Invasive Nature of Unwanted Sexts
By Live Fast Mag

Women are sick and tired of receiving unwanted dick pics (obviously), so Whitney Bell found it fit to channel this frustration into a traveling anti-harassment gallery show. With the third installment, I Didn’t Ask For This: A Lifetime of Dick Pics, taking place October 6th and 7th, Bell takes the invasive perversion of this form of digital sexual harassment and channels it into action. A highly successful show, there’s been over 4,500 attendees and over $5,000 raised for The Center for Reproductive Rights and Happy Period so far.

This event functions as a full-fledged feminist education weekend. In addition to the gallery featuring 150+ unsolicited dick picks and the aggressive texts that accompany them hung inside a 3,500 square foot recreation of a woman’s home, there is a myriad of activations taking place throughout the weekend. A key aspect of the weekend that you won’t want to miss is a day full of educational panels from the likes of Shirely Manson (Front woman of Garbarge), Emily Sears (model and anti-harassment activist), Ericka Hart (Speaker, Activist, Sex Educator), Anna Del Gaizo (Senior Editor at Playboy), and more.

Purchase your tickets to the event taking place on October 6th and 7th today – you’ll be supporting anti-harassment non-profit HollaBack by doing so! Don’t wait too long – tickets usually sell out quick.

A Tour of Magnificent ‘Magnolia House!’

A Tour of Magnificent ‘Magnolia House!’
By noreply@blogger.com (My Scandinavian Home)

I definitely shouldn’t complain today – I’m working from home in my cosiest pair of socks, the sun’s streaming through the windows and I’m about to wander down to the sea for a coffee. Even so, am I allowed to dream of a winter escape?! Yesterday we took a peek inside the barn and cottage at The Bower boutique hotel, and today I have another dream stay to share with you – Magnolia House.  Situated (once again) in Byron Bay, Australia, Magnolia House is a pure relaxed and sophisticated style haven with lofty ceilings and large, spacious living spaces. Whitewashed walls provide a perfect backdrop for old and new items and a subtle tropical vibe. Could you imagine staying here with family and friends? If so, can you count me (I make a mean aperitif)?!

Photography: Jessie Prince

What a perfect home-from-home? The problem is, I’d never want to leave – how about you?!

Get the look: kitchen – these simple wood stools are similar,  source a vintage scale here ( I spy a couple of beautiful one-off ones but you’ll need to hurry!), primitive dough bowl. dining area – this mudcloth cushion is similar. Sitting room – butterfly chair. Outdoors – I love this hanging rattan chair.

If you’d like to hang around for a while and dream, you could always check out my ‘holiday homes‘ archive – from a romantic bed & breakfast in France and a log cabin in Holland to your very own island hide-away off the coast of Tasmania! This is where I’ll be all morning…

Have a lovely day

PS So happy to see a write up of my new book in online magazine Deco, titled ‘Lagom: Home Swede Home‘ (love that!).

Dream stay: The Bower, Byron Bay

Dream stay: The Bower, Byron Bay
By noreply@blogger.com (My Scandinavian Home)

I seem to be suffering from a real case of wanderlust right now – and the more I travel, the more I realise there’s just so much out there I haven’t seen. Do you feel this way too?!  One country high up on my list is Australia. Over the past few years, this country has been taunting me from afar with beautiful design, awe-inspiring nature and fabulous places to stay. I mean, take this new hotel for instance! The Bower in Byron Bay, New South Wales was recently converted from a motel into a luxury boutique hotel by eight creatives – all of whom shared a desire to combine urban style with a laid-back beach-side vibe. Made up of 14 suites, a barn, cottage and family house, the calm and laid-back hotel opened it’s doors last month – and it’s waiting for us to come along and hang-out for a few days. Race you there?!

The cottage

The barn

Photography: Jessie Prince

Soooo. Tempted?!

Just in case it’ll be a while before any one of us make it out there – here’s a little guide on where things are from (hey, who’s to say we can’t re-create that minimalist, Byron Bay beach-side vibe in our own homes?).

The cottage: dining area – white bentwood chairs, rattan pendant. Sitting roomMoroccan pouf, the Bemz Loose Fit Urban sofa covers are similar to this (see mine here!), this mudcloth cushion is lovely! Bedroom – I like this light grey pillow cover (the ruffles!) and this plain one. Outdoor dining – pick up a similar stool from Lovely & Co (used as bedside tables in my home!).

The barn: buy similar made-to-measure white linen curtains here, try Bemz for chair covers like these. Source vintage school posters here. I like this linen duvet cover (select ‘charcoal’ for similar).

Oh, and you can make a reservation at The Bower hereon the condition that you make us all jealous by sharing lots of snaps on Instagram – we want to see more!

Have a lovely day!

Mabel Vicentef’s Single Line Drawings will Stun you With Their Powerful Simplicity

Mabel Vicentef’s Single Line Drawings will Stun you With Their Powerful Simplicity
By Erin Rose Belair

There is nothing simple about a single line when rendered like this. If anything, the power of Mabel Vicentef’s drawings are amplified by the fact that she never lifts her pencil from the page and she never stops while creating one of these pieces. The movement is constant. It’s a fluid motion, filled with intention, and appears as if her hand is guided by that thing we cannot touch our tongues to, the certain something of an artist. Each one has a dose of heart and passion in it, a stunning kind of simplicity that isn’t simple at all.

The calm Danish home of Emilie Schwartzlose

The calm Danish home of Emilie Schwartzlose
By noreply@blogger.com (Blog Milk Shop)

Hej hej! I’m just packing for my flight back to Sweden after a brilliant few days in London (I do love being back home in the big smoke!). I fly via Copenhagen and I’m soooo tempted to go for a wander (must organise a day in Denmark’s capital ASAP!). The Danes have such a great sense of style. This home of Emilie Schwartzlose in Frederikshavn, North Jutlund, is fairly small in size (52 square metres / square feet) but what it lacks in square metres it certainly makes up for in aesthetics. The space is characterised by soft, earthy green hues, natural textures and as Danish magazine, Bolig describes it a ‘poetic’ appeal. Oh and it’s also enjoyed by her furry friend, Charlie. Here are a few snaps from Emilie’s lovely home…

Photography – Emelie Schwartzlose

What a lovely space – looking at the pictures it’s hard to imagine it’s only 52 square metres – don’t you think?

You can see more of it over on Emilie’s lovely instagram feed.

Here’s a quick round-up of items I know and love: sitting roomEames chair, Kubus candleholder, Saro rug. In cabinetRoyal copenhagen. Bedroomwhite linen duvet cover, bentwood chair (pick up a vintage one here).

There are lots and lots of beautiful Danish homes to drool over in this archive – (as always, if this pops up first, just scroll passed).

Have a great start to the week lovely friends!
